An opulent weekend at Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah
The Waldorf Astoria Ras al Khaimah is the embodiment of luxury and top-notch hospitality. Nestled in the Emirate that is particularly unique because it offers all four of the different landscapes found in the UAE (plains, mountains, beaches, deserts), it is an opulent getaway spot for Dubaians and tourists alike.

For any Dubaian, there will come a time when there is an overwhelming urge to get away from the bright lights, big city. It’s easy to forget that within an hour, tranquility can be found in the stunning UAE desert with its multicoloured sand and roaming goats and camels. Find respite within Ras al Khaimah, the Emirate just 45 minutes from Dubai International Airport, and home to the luxurious Waldorf Astoria Ras al Khaimah.

Ras al Khaimah is the perfect luxury holiday destination, offering serenity, calm, and natural beauty.

The lovely Peacock Alley at night

The lovely Peacock Alley at night

As soon as you walk into the pearl diving-themed lobby of the Waldorf Astoria Ras al Khaimah, you’re greeted by the most magnificent clock, which took clockmaker Smith of Derby 8 months to make. This towering centrepiece was specially designed to honour the Arabic culture, including an inscription of a well-known ancient Bedouin poem—“from your homeland travel abroad to find glory”.

The thematic and lush interior design reflects a clear influence of the local environment and continues throughout the hotel. Cream colours for the beaches, golds for the desert, and reds for the Jebel Jais mountain range. Knowing the inspiration and stories behind all of these details makes this place feel all the more romantic.

Our suite

Our suite

Our junior suite was one of 346 deluxe rooms and suites. The generously sized room had a beautiful living room which flowed into a dining area, complete with a lovely fruit arrangement. From there, we waltzed into a stunning bedroom, which had a huge wardrobe space and a second bathroom.

Not only was the suite incredibly spacious but it was well-designed, from the turquoise blown glass knobs and rippled mirror frames, to the beautifully engraved headboard and fabulous stag coral light shades. I donned their Boca Terry luxury dressing gown and drenched myself in Ferragamo bathroom amenities before sampling the gorgeous complimentary spread of chocolate and pistachio bars and divine-looking cupcakes!

Azure Restaurant

Azure Restaurant

There are 10 restaurants, bars, and lounges at the hotel. We lunched at the poolside Azure, which includes poster beds swathed in voile and very comfy wooden-slatted sun beds. Awesome background music accompanied the great wine list and food offerings and our Arabic mezzeh and two wraps left us absolutely stuffed.

For dinner, we decided to try out UMI. The chain curtains, dark tones, and talented chef in the open Japanese kitchen reminded me of Hakkasan and I was initially very impressed. BUT, after the superb service at Azure earlier, I was disappointed in the slightly shabby service that didn’t match the luxury environment. The food itself was pleasant—the dim sum were amazing and whilst the crab salad lacked flavour, the teriyaki chicken swooped in to save the day.

The next day,  we enjoyed a breakfast fit for royalty at the light-filled Qasr al Bahar. The interior here is like being on the shoreline of the sea—soothing pale creams and watery ocean hues fill the space and create a welcoming atmosphere for a leisurely meal.

The under-the-sea theme spa

The under-the-sea theme spa

The spa here has beautifully polite staff and uses some of the best products in my eyes, including QMS Medicosmetics and Voya, making the whole experience top notch. In fact, I’d say that it’s one of the best spas I’ve been to in a long time!

All in all, this Waldorf Astoria was a true delight, especially since it is the UAE’s first Waldorf Astoria, and Hilton Worldwide’s first luxury property in the UAE.

A trip to the Waldorf Astoria RAK is well worth your time and you’ll be guaranteed two things: it will dent your bank account, but you’ll be too blissed out to moan about it!
